Prevention of Oil Leakage during Diesel Engine Assembly

The core of preventing oil leakage in diesel engine assembly is to strictly follow specifications in four dimensions: selection and installation of sealing components, torque control, cleanliness management, and verification of key processes, so as to eliminate leakage risks at the assembly source.
1. Core Control Points for SealingComponent Installation
Full Inspection before Installation: Verify the model and specification of all sealing rings, oil seals and gaskets. Reject components with deformation, cracks or aging defects. All gaskets shall be replaced with new parts during overhaul.
Pretreatment prior to Installation: Thoroughly clean sealing surfaces to remove oil stains and contaminants. Apply the specified grade of lubricating oil to sealing surfaces of cylinder liners, valve stems and other positions as required to reduce assembly friction and prevent sealing parts from being scratched by sharp edges.
Standard Operating Details: Install valvestem oil seals with a special guide sleeve. Press vertically into place to avoid tilting and damage to lock rings. Ensure cylinderliner sealing rings are fully seated in grooves without twisting, warping or offset. Do not use silicone sealant on Orings of the fuel system, which may cause seal failure.
Distinguish SpecialPurpose Parts: Install intake and exhaustvalve guide oil seals according to their colorcoding. Mixed or incorrect installation is forbidden to ensure matching heatresistance and sealing performance under different working conditions.
2. Bolt Torque and AssemblyAccuracy Control
Defined Sequence and Torque for Critical Bolts: Tighten core fasteners such as cylinderhead nuts, connectingrod bolts and flywheel bolts in multiple steps following the torque and sequence specified by the original manufacturer. Do not fasten directly to the rated torque in one pass, which would cause uneven stress and deformation of sealing surfaces.
FittingSurface Verification: Avoid excessive tightening force that deforms thinwall components such as valvecover housings. Reshape and resurface misaligned mating surfaces before fitting with brandnew gaskets, to achieve full gapfree contact.
Piping Installation Specifications: Fit fuel delivery pipes with appropriate bending radii. Prevent direct contact between pipes and the engine block to avoid longterm abrasion. Ensure washers for hollow bolts are flat; grind or replace them if distorted. Repair cracks in metal fuel pipes by welding before installation.
3. FullProcess Cleanliness Control
Overall Cleanliness Requirements: Thoroughly clean all parts, lubricatingoil circuits, tools and workbenches before assembly. Blow off residual contaminants with compressed air. Prevent particles trapped between mating sealing surfaces, which would lead to leakage.
Undamaged Mating Surfaces: Inspect sealing mating surfaces including cylinder liners and valve stems for scratches, burrs and wear grooves, to guarantee complete contact between sealing elements and base metal surfaces.
Environmental Control: Keep the sealingcomponent assembly area clean. Prevent dust and fibers from adhering to oilseal lips and impairing sealing performance.
4. SealingPerformance Verification upon Completion
StepbyStep LeakTest: After assembling critical sealing positions, fill with clean engine oil and perform static pressureholding test. Proceed to the next process only when no oil seepage is observed at mating surfaces and sealing performance is confirmed qualified.
Reinspection under Dynamic Operating Conditions: After the first engine startup, run it at idle speed for a period. Inspect the oilfilter base, oilpan joints, pipe connectors and other locations. The engine can be put under load only after no leakage is confirmed.
Special Inspection of Pronetoleak Points: Focus on highfrequency leakage locations including oilcooler sealing rings, oildrainplug washers and valvecover gaskets, to eliminate hidden assemblyrelated risks.
